Why I started African Dishout

Hey family,

I wanted to take a moment and say a genuine thank you for being part of the African Dishout community.

When I started this, it didn’t come from a perfect plan or some big strategy.

It came from something simple…

I missed home.
I missed the food.
The feeling.
The familiarity.

That moment when you take a bite and everything just makes sense, no explanation needed.

And I realized I wasn’t the only one. So many of us in the diaspora carry that same feeling. That quiet gap. That longing for something that reminds us who we are.

African Dishout started as a way to close that gap. To make it easier for us to find our food, support our people, and stay connected to where we come from, no matter where we are.

At the time, I didn’t fully know what it would become. I just knew it mattered. And that was enough to start.

What started as something personal has grown into something much bigger. A community. And honestly, I couldn't have dreamed it better.

I’ll share more about the early days and what it really took to build this in my next note.

For now, I just want to say thank you for being here, for supporting, and for being part of this journey.

With love,
Jamila
