Happy Mother’s Day from African Dishout

Happy Mother’s Day from African Dishout | Food, Family & Community

Jamila Zomah

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about motherhood — and how deeply it shapes the way we love, care for others, and build community.

This photo reminds me of the women who helped shape me. Mothers, sisters, aunties, friends, and chosen family. Strong women who taught me love, sacrifice, resilience, faith, and what it truly means to show up for people.

And honestly, becoming a mother myself changed the way I see everything.

There’s something about carrying and caring for another human being that softens you in some ways and strengthens you in others. You begin to understand love from an entirely different perspective. A deeper one. A more selfless one.

But I also believe motherhood goes far beyond biology.

Some women become mothers to entire communities. They create warmth where there was once distance. They make people feel safe, seen, and cared for. They carry traditions forward and somehow make difficult seasons feel lighter simply through the way they love.

That spirit is a huge part of why I built African Dishout.

Because in our culture, food has never just been food.

Food is care.
Food is comfort.
Food is connection.
Food is home.

Some of my favorite memories growing up happened around a table — watching meals prepared with intention and shared with love. Looking back now, I realize those moments weren’t just about eating. They were about family, tradition, sacrifice, and connection.

Meals brought people together. They created conversation. They created belonging.

And I think that’s part of why African Dishout means so much to me today.

At its heart, this brand has always been about more than food delivery. It’s about helping people stay connected — to home, to culture, to memories, and to each other.

Especially for those who are far away from family or trying to recreate a feeling of home wherever they are.

So today, I just want to say thank you.

To every mother in our community.
To the women quietly holding everything together behind the scenes.
To the mothers working tirelessly for their families.
To the women nurturing people in ways the world may never fully see.

You are appreciated.
You are deeply valued.
And your love leaves a lasting impact.

Wishing you a beautiful Mother’s Day.

With love,
Jamila
