New York's rooftop season is closing out properly this year. AfroFuture is bringing Champion Sound, Turntable Wars to The Rooftop at Pier 17 on September 13, a lineup of some of the sharpest DJs in the culture going head-to-head over the city skyline. What Is Champion Sound, Turntable Wars?

Champion Sound is AfroFuture's DJ battle tournament, landing in New York as part of the organisation's 2026 event lineup. Formerly known as Afrochella, AfroFuture is the annual flagship festival that fills Accra every December with names like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Stonebwoy, and Black Sherif, and which made its first US expansion in 2025 with a debut edition in Detroit. Turntable Wars is built as a bracket: four regions- Nigeria, Ghana, the Francophone crew, and the Caribbean- battle it out, with each round's winners advancing to face off until one is crowned champion.

Who’s Playing

The bracket opens with two first-round battles: Nigeria's DJ Obi and DJ LAJ against Ghana's Kwamz Original and DJ RBNice, and the Francophone crew SIXTION and DJ IPOD against the Caribbean's K Dawg, Ezpass, and Sounds of Reality. The winners of each matchup meet later in the night for the title. Special guest performances come from DBN Gogo, Victony, and Bnxn.
