African Dishout just landed in Atlanta, and our first restaurant partner is owned by a woman who understands sacrifice. Three years ago, Olayinka Oboh dreamed of having a food truck. She could not afford one outright, and financing it meant going into debt, something she was not willing to do. So she sat her kids down and explained the difference between needs and wants. Nine months later, Fufu Catering had a brand new truck, paid for in full, no loans, no shortcuts.
“We needed to deprive ourselves of Nike sneakers or Jordans, and let me shop for them at the thrift store, just so we could save up for the food truck.” - Olayinka Oboh, Fufu Catering Kitchen & Grill — Voyage ATL
Olayinka’s story started long before the truck. She began cooking for friends and family for free, no business plan, just people who needed a taste of home. A friend eventually pushed her to make it official and covered the $150 registration fee when she could not. She never looked back. Today, she holds more than 14 food certifications and runs a food truck alongside a brick and mortar location. In her own words, dedication and perseverance are the key.
That same resolve shows up on the plate. Amala is where it all began, made the way she learned it growing up in Oyo, Nigeria, off her grandmother’s recipe, one she cared about enough to have her grandmother painted onto the restaurant wall, exactly as she remembers her. The signature Amala comes with ewedu, gbegiri, and your choice of protein, and it is the dish regulars keep coming back for. Past that, the menu runs deep: Ayamase, yam porridge, egusi soup with swallow, jollof, ogbono with swallow, efo with swallow, boiled yam with fish sauce, and an Asun rice not many kitchens in the area even attempt.
Fufu Catering Kitchen & Grill is not just a restaurant. It is also Atlanta’s first Nigerian food truck, a full catering operation built for weddings and events of any size, and a stocked grocery store next door, Fufu International Market.
Restaurant, catering, and groceries, all from one kitchen. That is the exact combination Dishout is built around.
